HECO Refuses to Hire Scott Goold

Dangers of Corporate Socialism

For numerous reasons, Hawai'i is a broken and failed state in the United States. Life is financially difficult for most residents. Public schools are poor. Healthcare is costly. Housing is ridiculously expensive. Electricity provided by Hawaiian Electric is the most expensive in the nation, and Hawai'i is the only state reliant on dirty diesel for power generation. We're living in the 1900s.

Dangerously, Hawai'i is probably the most socialistic state in the country. Corruption is overwhelming — there is a Deep Moral Crisis in the aloha state. Energy is costly as Hawaiian Electric is a socialist enterprise — a regulated monopoly. Their inefficiency causes prices to soar in every other business venture or endeavor.

The entire board of Hawaiian Electric was forced out a couple years ago due to "bad" management. Shareholders requested outside leadership. Didn't happen. The corrupt directors again hired from within their tight Asian family ranks.

Being humble is a high-ranked value in local culture. Luke Shepardson recenlty won the world's most prestigious big-wave contest — The Eddie. On stage, he politely thanked sponsors and fans for the recognition, but said "I gotta get back to the tower to make sure everyone is ok for the rest of the day."

Asked if he thought he was on a par with the great Eddie Aikau, the Hawaiian lifeguard whom the contest is name after, Shepardson said, "I'll never be as good as Eddie. He's someone to look up to, to aspire to be like."

Shelee Kimura was selected to be the new CEO, although she had absolutely no experience. She learns while island residents suffer. Shelee Kimura isn't humble. She loves herself; not others.

In September 2022, CEO Kimura closed the AES coal-fired plant on O'ahu. This decision raised prices for local residents 4%-7% during the most inflationary period in forty years. Rich people in Hawai'i think coal is evil. They gave CEO Kimura an award for raising prices!

However, it would take residents in Hawai'i over 5,100 years to use as much coal as China does in one year; or over 1,700+ years to use as much coal as India uses in one year.

Coming to O'ahu from Kaua'i, Scott Goold was excited and honored to be serving with so many Asians. Scott's experience with the Asian community led him to believe Asians represented the Best & Brightest in America. His IT coworkers were; his IT manager Lori Yafuso certainly was.

However, Asian female senior managers were not. They were incompetent and cruel. They care about themselves, but not others.

This flawed logic to rush to renewable energy motivates wealthy people to purchase an expensive electric vehicle (EV), while charging the battery nightly with energy generated by dirty diesel. This irrational policy is one reason Hawai'i is collapsing, while Singapore, China and India are growing.

Why Can't We Do This in Hawai'i?

Elton Freitas asks: Why Can't We Do This in Hawai'i?

Singapore went from one of the most poor, broken and failed nations in the world to the 4th Richest Nation today [see YouTube video]. Many Americans do not know much about Singapore.

One of my favorite movies, "Crazy Rich Asians," takes place in Singapore. Such a beautiful island. Would it be possible for Hawai'i to follow their example?

Singapore 4th Richest Nation in World

Singapore 4th Richest Nation in World; Hawai'i One of Poorest States

Singapore began its rise to global recognition when Lee Kuan Yew was sworn in as the first prime minister in June 1959. He was a brutal autocratic ruler, who employed many principles of socialism.

However, Lee Kuan Yew was benevolent. He was like a strict father who put the nation and people first. Working together, they marched from nearly last in world rankings to the top. Lee Hsien Loong is now the 3rd prime minister of Singapore.

Coincidentally, Hawai'i became the 50th U.S. state in 1959. Dr. Josh Green is now the 9th governor of Hawai'i. Although grounded in principles of our democratic Republic, the people are unable to save and plan for the future. Corruption in government, business and society steals from future generations. There is little planning for the future; most families are treading water and hoping not to drown.

As both Singapore and Hawai'i have dominate Asian populations, comparing the two islands gives us an rare insight to the different political and business cultures. Over 75 percent of Singaporeans are Chinese and about 99 percent of the small nation is Asian. Hawai'i is over 70 percent Asian mixed with Native Hawaiian, American and European families.

Lee Kuan Yew was successful smashing corruption in Singapore, which encouraged global business interests to flock to the island nation. Green takes office during one of the darkest periods of moral corruption in Hawai'i history. U.S. and foreign business leaders are not interested in relocating to Hawai'i.

Singapore's workforce is highly-trained, and one of the best educated in the world. They have low housing costs; excellent health and access to top medical and healthcare systems. Families save money and prepare for the future.

Hawaii's workforce has low-level skills, which are best for making beds or cleaning rooms in hotels, and providing basic service industry tasks. Their health is poor: obesity, diabetes and heart troubles disable many. The public education system is inadequately funded; rich families send their keiki to private schools.

Wealthy people don't pay their fair share of taxes in Hawai'i. They live in concentrated enclaves of privilege and power in Kailua or Hawai'i Kai, while Kahala is considered to be the Beverly Hills of Hawai'i — also located on the island of O'ahu.

In contrast, about half the remaining population has to work 2-3 jobs each just to pay rent. Hawaiian Electric and their cronies in government and corporate enterprise not only applaud when the energy company raises rates, they give the rookie CEO another leadership award.

Retaliatory Behavior

Just this week, a job opportunity came to Scott Goold's LinkedIn social media account. Interested Scott, as the hiring manager was Yingwei Kaplan. She served as one of the outstanding project managers during Scott's tenure with the HECO IT department. They had an excellent personal relationship and were extremely successful on the company mission.

UPDATE 2.20.23: Scott Goold learned unofficially last week that Asian management at HECO was not willing to rehire him. He received the formal notice today. The Asian senior management team has refused to hire highly-qualified Scott Goold for four years.

Put together another winning team, right? Do what is best for residents, ratepayers and business in Hawai'i, right? LOL ... not with the vindictive Asian executive women at Hawaiian Electric. Don't believe they like men — particularly White males. The gals want to run the school.

Hawaiian Electric is a socialist organization. They don't have to focus as much on profit margins or production goals. They can hire friends who are not qualified; or refuse to hire talented people they do not "like."

Remember the silly social games privileged people played in high school? There were cool girls and boys. They bullied and behaved high maka maka. Scott kept his distance. Scott didn't respect people who acted this way.

In Hawai'i, adults still interact like spoiled, privilged children. It's not the aloha way! This culture demonstrates insecurity; not strength or confidence. So many aspects of life in Hawai'i stay broke due to this culture.

Hawaiian Electric fired Scott Goold on February 25, 2019. They refused to let him re-apply for the position — although the position remained open for months. Scott applied about a year later for the same position. Asian executive women at HECO again ignored the qualified and talented candidate.

Scott thought maybe after four years these ladies would be willing to give him a second chance and treat him professionally. Asian executive women at Hawaiian Electric are not compassionate or kind. They are retaliatory and cruel.

Some people will read this documentary and claim, "Scott Goold doesn't like women." They would be wrong. Scott Goold spent his professional career fighting to advance women issues politically and in the workplace.

However, Scott does not support friendism, cronyism, nepotism or discriminatory hiring practices. As a White male, Scott has known for decades that the job market is slanted against him and other White males.

Scott remembers a memorable encounter he had years ago with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. He was sitting alone playing with the famous Peabody ducks. He heard the footsteps of a woman's high heel shoes approaching, and a quiet voice asked, "They're so cute, aren't they?"

Scott looked up. In disbelief, he saw it was the Madame Secretary. Scott started to get up, to stand in the presence of greatness. The former secretary giggled, "Please, stay seated."

What an inspirational 20-30 minutes Scott had with one of the most powerful women in the history of the world. The Madame Secretary was bright, witty, charming — and disarming. Scott felt like he had known Ms. Albright for years, as if they were former high school friends or past colleagues.

Scott respects talent. Scott respects competency. Scott respects people who are kind and compassionate. The Madame Secretary was all that and more. Scott could clearly "feel" her power of leadership and command. Scott would have followed her wherever she asked. Male or female doesn't matter. Skin color or ethnicity doesn't matter. Competency, kindness and compassion matter.

Madame Secretary had all these qualities. Executive Asian women at Hawaiian Electric are petty, insecure, weak-minded and cruel. They do not deserve to hold these privileged positions. And, they are hurting residents of Hawai'i, and in turn, citizens of the United States of America. That's what matters!

When departing, the Madame Secretary asked Scott for a favor ... somewhat stunned, he said, "Of course. What can I do for you?"

"Well, not many people know I like to come talk to these ducks. I would appreciate it if you don't tell my secret. They already believe I'm nuts. We don't need to give them any more reason to think that."

Scott laughed. He promised the Madame Secretary not to tell this story (until now, as Madame Secretary has passed). Ms. Albright thanked Scott and gave him a hug. Scott believes the Madame Secretary would have made an excellent President of the United States of America — especially if she had included the famous Peabody ducks in her cabinet.

Today, for example, imagine Scott is applying for a position against an equally-qualifed woman or Black male. Who do you believe will get the job? Scott isn't sure. He only knows that it won't be him — as a White male.

That's the reality for White males today. Scott didn't cry about the evolving workplace landscape. He retrained himself. Scott began his career as an economist and policy specialist. As more women and minorities were entering these professions, Scott taught himself to write code and developed IT skills. This industry is still one area open to White men.

However, HECO isn't market-based. They hire for social identity, family and Asian ethnicity reasons. CEO Connie Lau took the reigns of Hawaiian Electric Industries around 2006. Under her direction, the corporate network began seeking to hire more women. Although the HECO workforce is over 70 percent male, management is dominated by Asian females.

Scott Goold would have no objection if management was competent. As this example shows, the Asian female executives are poor directors. The workforce is not trained effectively. This situation demonstrates the danger of socialism, as incompetent friends, family members and employees of a similar ethnicity are selected over more qualified applicants.

In this model, the public loses, corporations and small businesses lose, and ultimately, the state of Hawai'i falls further behind. We will never be Singapore.
